As a business owner, you can be at the mercy of your employees – certainly very few l business owners I know think that the employment Legislation system is a fair playing field (a topic for another day) At the end of the day you cannot after all control how your employees get up each day or choose their attitude or how their day will pan out BUT you can to some degree influence and nurture a workplace that many often dream about.

Building your Dream Workplace

8 top tips – Updated 2020

In 2020 the world experienced a pandemic that has changed the way we live; we work and how businesses see their team members. The impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) was felt by all businesses not only here in Australia but around the world. Leaders were navigating a broad range of interrelated issues that span from keeping their employees and customer safety, shoring-up cash and liquidity, reorienting operations, and navigating complicated government support programs.

As the return to work for many became imminent businesses needed to start managing employee numbers so that social-distancing (we prefer Physical- distancing as we are still social but in other ways) requirements were met and to ensure employee and workplace health and wellbeing. This included.

  • Staggered reintroduction to workplace
  • Restricting numbers in at one time
  • Maintaining a level of remote working
  • Rethinking Physical Setups
  • Reviewing Infrastructure needs
  • And how to communicate the new ways

As a business owner not only have you had the weight of the COVID-19 on your shoulders and were already working on average 63% more than other workers you now had a whole new challenge. From my experience of the workplace and as a business owner myself, I have put together 8 tips to build that mythic, dreamed about, idealized workplace from the ground up. Essentially, however, in my opinion, as a business owner (you will have heard me say this on more than one occasion) the best way to get a dream workplace is –

“treat others as you would have them treat you”

There’s no magic formula for great company culture. The key is just to treat your staff how you would like to be treated.” Richard Branson
